With his new leg piece, Uncle Steve stands 8" tall and is articulated at the neck, waist, and arms. Made in Japan. This edition will be cast in black vinyl infused with a light glitter. The images you see are the original prototype and the finished wax casting for mold making. Please don’t mistake the images for the final color vinyl.
3 years ago at Designer Con, I debuted the original Uncle Steve. A string of production issues resulted in his quick disappearance. My second attempt at recreating Uncle Steve was lost in a studio fire in Japan. But the 3rd time is the charm, and the figure is now at Obitsu. The wax and joint work is already complete and the metal molds are currently being made. Throughout my career working with Japanese factories, Obitsu has proven to be 100% reliable, that is why I made sure to end the Uncle Steve curse, and send him there.
Uncle Steve is named after my real uncle, an avid collector of comics, magazines, posters, and other cool things. When I was a child he would always gift me comics and old magazines, his favorite to give were EC reprints and old Creepy magazines. He would warn me "Don't tell your mother." these words of caution are hidden inside Uncle Steve, stamped into the waist joint.
I think many of us have someone like Uncle Steve, someone who turned us onto comics, art, toys, horror or other cool things on the fringes of pop-culture. Someone who led us away from the ordinary, and to creative discoveries we may otherwise have never experienced.
